Automatic Scenario Construction/Composition (ASC) for Smart Testing and Evaluation

The RTSync Team has developed an automatic scenario construction/composition capability (ASC), sponsored by Missile Defense Agency STTR Phase I and II programs. The ASC supports the automatic aggregation of Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) elements, environments, threats, and representations from a repository into executable form and is capable of evolving with future adversary threats, the BMDS architecture, mission evolution (e.g., Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD)), stakeholder needs and BMDS Modeling & Simulation (M&S) enterprise activities. To demonstrate the application of the proposed system architecture to problems of interest to MDA, we addressed the challenge of the current inability to fully identify and simulate regions of interest in the very large configuration space of complex models that underlie BMDS simulations.

To overcome this challenge, we designed methods and algorithms to efficiently explore and automatically identify desirable scenarios for simulation by employing machine learning to identify non-obvious relationships between large sets of data points. We employ such methods to guide the System Entity Structure (SES) to generate relevant, pruned modeling structures from a larger, bounded configuration space and control their execution on a simulation platform.
