GenetScope-NetSim 2 Tutorial
Scenario : 2 fixed station and 1 mobile station

  1. Making new configuration file

1) startTab

  1. Click the start button
  2. New tab, Options tab, is shown.
  3. Click the Options tab to go to the next step.



2) Options tab

  1. Click the Make New Configuration button
  2. New tab, Experimental Frame tab, is shown.

  1. Click the Experimental Frame tab to go to the next step.

   3) Experimental Frame tab.

  1. Set the Fixed stations to 2 according to scenario. User can use a slider bar or a text field. If using a text field, use a tab key after enter the value to make sure that input value is set the program.
  2. Set the Mobile stations to 1 according to scenario.
  3. After setting fixed stations and mobile stations value, click the Configure Experiment button to reflect the two values in the system configuration.
  4. The System configuration tab is shown
  5. Click the System Configuration tab to go to the next step.
  6. Information of Other tabs in the Experimental Frame tab refers to GenetScope_Netsim2 manual.



4) System Configuration tab
- There are 6 sub tabs in the System Configuration tab. Fixed Station, Mobiles, Traffic, and Set up tab is used to make configuration file. Others are for information of frequencies and locations.
4.1) Fixed station tab
- 2 fixed stations are checked in the Check boxes on the left side of fixed station pane.
- User can change fixed stations whatever he wants. Then Station Call combo box will add the selected stations.
-. To configure a fixed station, choose one station(ADW) in the Station Call combo box.

- Click the Lookup button. Then information of selected station is displayed, 
Lookup button is disabled, and Configure button is enabled.

  1. Select 3 presets(AFAFL, AFC, and CAPNET) on the preset tab in System configuration-Fixed station pane.
  2. Click the Configure button. Then the Configure button is disabled and the UPDATE button is enabled.


- Click the Radio Levels to check levels information from the presets.

  1. Click the UPDATE button to save the configuration of the selected station into the data base. Then UPDATA button is disabled and Look up button is enabled
  2. Update complete message window is shown to know saving information.
  3. Click ok button in the Update complete message window to configure the other fixed station.

  1. Do the same routines again to configure GUA station with 3 presets (AFALE, AFALE1, and NIPRNET).
  2. Go to the Mobiles tab to configure a mobile station.

4.2) Mobiles tab

  1. User can change a mobile type and # of mobiles. As a default, one of C5 is selected.
  2. After selection of type and # of mobiles, Click the Enter Details button to configure a mobile station
  3. Then Aircraft Details window is shown.

  1. Enter the Call Sign and Start Time(min) field.

  1. Click the Flight Detail button
  2. Then 23456 Aircraft Details window is shown with 4 sub tabs.

  1. In the Flight Path tab, To search AZ location, enter “az” on the first row and Location column, press the tab key, and press the Lookup Location.

  1. Then Select Exact Location window is shown.
  2. Select one location( TUCSON AZ USA DAVIS MONTHAN AFB USAF)
  3. Click Ok button

- The information of the selected location is populated on the 23456 Aircraft Details window.

  1. Do the same routines for other locations (SAN DIEGO CA USA MIRIMAR NAS USN)

  1. Click the Radio Level tab.
  2. Click the Mission column to select a preset.


  1. A selection of one preset populates other columns
  2. Other tabs (ALE, Address List, and Scan List) are for showing the information.
  3. If setting is finished, Then Click ok button.

  1. Aircraft Details window is shown again.
  2. Press Done button.
  3. Press Traffic tab to generate traffic message.


4.3) Traffic tab
- To generate new traffic, click the Enter New Traffic Stream Details button.

  1. Traffic Generator window is shown
  2. Select default name (ALEVoice), check the check box named MS, and click the EnterDetail button to select one of MS.

  1. Press Done button, then Source text area and Preset combo box fields are populated.

  1. To validate the preset, click the Validate button.
  2. If a selected preset is validated, the validation successed window is shown.
  3. If not, the validation failed window is shown.


- Pressing the OK button makes the ScanListChannels field populated.
- Click the check box to select subset in scan list.

  1. Channel Selection window is shown
  2. Check the combo boxes to be used
  3. Click Done button
  4. The selected combo boxes are shown in the scanlist channel field.


- Freq. of Occ, Duration, Latency, and Dest. GS is set as Random(Continuous), 2, 0, and All, respectively.

  1. If finishing the comments, click the Done button.

  1. The traffic table displays the traffic stream.
  2. To the detail usage of Other buttons ( Delete Traffic Stream and Update Traffic Stream), refer to a manual.
  3. Click the Set Up tab

4.4) Set Up tab

  1. Simulation start time and Simulation End time are set to 01 and 20
  2. Sun spot number is automatically set.
  3. Propagation model can be changed by a user.

  1. After setting all fields, Click the Write Configuration file button.

  1. Configuration Complete window is shown with a path for a new configuration file.
  2. Pressing Ok button shows the Run/Simulate tab.


- An above figure show a new configuration file.

5 Click the Run/Simulate tab.

  1. To run the configuration file, click Run Detailed Model button.

  1. To pause the simulation, click the Pause button.

  1. Clicking the Terminate button makes Log Analysis and Performance Analysis tabs
